Ophiolites are slices of the Earth’s mantle that make hydrogen on their own and turn CO₂ into stone. Decahydron is building one business on both: supplying clean hydrogen to industry, and storing CO₂ permanently for the emitters who have to pay for every tonne they release.
Both markets are large, both are short of supply, and in both the price of doing nothing keeps rising.
Of hydrogen used worldwide each year, almost all of it made from natural gas and coal. Less than 1% is low-emission.
Of CO₂ that must be captured and stored every year by 2030 to stay on a 1.5 °C path. About 64 Mt a year is stored today.
In Europe, every tonne of CO₂ has a price, allowances shrink every year and free allocation for industry is being phased out. Emitters need somewhere to put their CO₂.

A 2010 exploration well already reaches the fractured mantle rock, and the gas logged while drilling points to hydrogen below a dense seal. Re-entering an existing well to measure the gas and test the flow costs a fraction of drilling a new one.

The oil and gas toolkit was designed for sedimentary basins. We have developed our own technology to explore ultramafic rock: to find where hydrogen forms and collects, and where CO₂ can be stored, and to drill and test it.
